It has been 8 long years since the release of Max Payne 2, and even longer since the first Max Paynevideo game came on the scene. Most of us probably have a vague memory at best of running through the streets of New York and slow bullet-time sequences. Or maybe you’re more like me, and never got your parent’s permission to play the first game.
Well, wouldn’t it be nice for a refresher seeing as the long awaited third installment is nearly upon us? No need to scour eBay for used copies; Rockstar is releasing the original on mobile platforms this month.
The smartphone version has been dubbed Max Payne Mobile. It will features all the original levels and content, but with revamped graphics. Controls have been adapted to touch buttons, similarly to howRockstar ported Grand Theft Auto 3 to mobile devices. However, if the default button settings aren’t jiving with your touch control style, you’ll have the option to customize the layout.
It will support the iPhone 3GS and above, as well as the iPod Touch 4, iPad 1, 2, and the new iPad. Rockstar has yet to release a list of supported Android devices, however. As with most mobile releases, the iOS version will take point launching on April 12th with an Android version coming on April 26th. Pricing has yet to be announced, but it’s likely Rockstar will follow former successes its had in the mobile market, and list it at no more than $5.
Max Payne 3, on the other hand, is set to launch on May 15th for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC version will appear on May 29th. No doubt the hype from this blockbuster third-person shooter will help drive gamers to pick up Max Payne Mobile in a few days.
